Gol Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes S.A GOL is a Brazilian airline based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It also owns the brand Varig, although now that name refers to what is informally known as the “new” Varig, founded in 2006, not to the extinct “old” Varig airline, founded in 1927. Gol operates a growing domestic and international scheduled network. Its main hubs are São Paulo–Guarulhos International Airport, Rio de Janeiro–Galeão International Airport and Tancredo Neves International Airport near Belo Horizonte. The company’s name is a Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish word borrowing from the English word “goal” from Association football.

TAM
– Linhas Aéreas Regionais was formed as a joint-venture between
TAM – Táxi Aéreo Marília and VASP.  TAM – Marília, an air
taxi company founded in 1961 at the city of Marília, provided the
start-up infrastructure for TAM – Regionais. In the late ‘80s, it
became evidently the airline would not last long when competing
against airlines such as Varig and VASP. TAM focused all efforts on
gradual growth with addition of new aircraft. On September 15, 1989,
TAM arranged for the acquisition of two Fokker 100 jets. Two more
were added in 1991. In 2000, the airline was renamed TAM Linhas
Aéreas in Portuguese.
